Born in Istanbul, Prof. Kavak graduated from Istanbul University,Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine . Shortly after she began her residency in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. In 1990-1991, she worked at St. Thomas’ Hospital in London as a part of residency programme.

She became an associate professor in 1996. At intervals throughout 2000 and 2001, she conducted studies on fetal medicine at King’s College Hospital, London, later receiving her diploma in Fetal Medicine there in 2004. She founded the Fetal-Maternal Medicine Unit at Marmara University, İstanbul in 2001, was appointed professor, and began working as Head of Hospital all within the same year. In 2002, she was elected as Chairman of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department. Between 2002-2006, she served as Advisor to the President at Marmara University.

With more than 170 of her articles published in national and international scientific journals, Prof. Kavak is currently on the editorial boards of several of these reputable journals. Her duties include serving as Vice President of the “Turkish Business Women Association". Due to her extensive research in perinatology, she was elected member of the World association of Perinatal Medicine Board in September 2005 and was later appointed deputy secretary, a task which she still continues up to this day. She is the board member of Fetus as a Patient Society, and International Academy of Perinatology. In January 2010, she was elected to the Board of Trustees of the World Academy of Art&Science. Focusing her main field of research on the use of 3D-4D ultrasonography and invasive procedures during pregnancy, Prof. Kavak has co-written numerous chapters related to these subjects in different internationally published books and has also edited various international and national medical books.

In addition to these tremendous accomplishments, Prof. Kavak is a writer, a columnist, and the producer/presenter of several television programs aimed at informing the public on women’s health issues through both broadcasting and written media channels.Her life also has been published in papers and broadcast on TV several times under the title ‘A Portrait of Success’.

Prof. Kavak is married and the mother of two children.
